Wrestling rings varied in size throughout the country. For example,Liverpool Stadium, built exclusively as a boxing arena, was said to have the largest ring at 24 feet from post to post.Belle Vue,about 20 feet(only a guess).Other boxing arenas had similar size rings. However, wrestling rings, nearly always temporary for the evening were often only 14 feet and I have see some only 12 feet. For me I liked the large boxing ring types.Smaller ones seemed very restrictive for the wrestlers to work in.Your opinions please.

Funny but when I was wrestling, I never knew the size of the rings in feet! All I knew is there were the smaller ones and the larger ones!
Being a heavyweight, I preferred of course the larger rings where you could move about a bit more than in the smaller rings as found in say the night clubs.
I’m wondering how many of the older wrestlers such as me knew the size of the rings in feet?
I preferred the larger rings, most of which were permanent. Rings in boxing halls were always larger.
Many of the smaller rings had to be of that size, if they were transported in and had to be taken down and away afterwards.
Definitely thought a larger ring the better. The Joint shows I went to had decent sized rings but some of the independents were very small - more restrictive as Powerlock says.
For me a minimum of 16-18 foot was essential anything smaller made it too restrictive to the wrestlers and the ref kept getting in the way.
