Have just been looking at the latest of the top Wrestling Magazine covers and was particularly struck by the one of Danny Lynch lifting Honeyboy Zimba high above his head. The caption implied that HBZ was destined for the ringside seats, but I dont think so. On a number of occasions I saw Danny finishing a bout by dropping his opponent from a great height throat down on the top rope. He certainly KO'd Angelo Guisto (?) by using this move in a televised bout and I think Harry Kendall may have met a similar fate, but my memory isn't clear on this.
Can anyone else remember Danny employing the move?
Yes the drop onto the top rope certainly was Danny's speciality finisher in the days when he was a young "up-and-coming" villain.
I'm interested in Danny lynch I started watching British TV wrestling in 1971 and I don't ever remember him being on TV. Did itv ban many wrestlers from TV. I never saw the Wildman of Borneo on TV either. Did all star have them exclusively under contract or something similar to keep them off TV
whatever happened to danny lynch, seemed to remember he bleed alot
Adrian Street, in his autobiography 'So Many Ways To Hurt You', mentions Danny Lynch. He said that Lynch started using a razor blade to cut himself in the ring. At first, this had a tremendous reaction from the crowd, who were not used to seeing this. However, Lynch then kept on cutting himself in nearly all his bouts and after a while it started to lose its impact. The promoters told Lynch to stop cutting himself so much but he kept on doing it and, in the early seventies, he was sacked from Joint Promotions. He then wrestled for independent promoters but never again for Joint Promotions, which is why marcus63 you did not see him on TV from 1971.
I believe that Danny Lynch died in 2007, aged 66.
John, that's very much appreciated. I went to school near bury St Edmunds and he tagged with crusher mason for all star. Ricky star also wrestled for all star then I think and I don't think he appeared on TV in the mid 70 s either. This was also the time when les kellet, Steve Logan, Jacky pallo left joint. Jackie pallo bills also started to appear around Clacton in the early 80 s and I think Mr pallo used Ricky knight being Paige father of WWE fame.
I think I read somewhere that Danny Lynch was the first wrestler to perform an overheard lift, lifting another wrestler (which takes a lot of strength and a lot of co-operation from the other man), not sure how true this is.
