G'day All,
Does anyone have an opinion of Dave Morgan that they'd like to share?
The little I've seen of Morgan on YouTube indicates to me that he was a quite a good wrestler.
I'm aware that Dave was born in Wales, raised in England and that following a promising career in the 1960s in Great Britain he wrestled in Europe, America, and Mexico before settling in Germany.
A good profile on Morgan can be found in the A-Z listings at https://www.wrestlingheritage.co.uk/mmorgan.htm
Considering that Dave won the World Light Heavyweight Championship, the Americas Tag Team Title and the United States Junior Heavyweight Championship during his career, I'm a bit surprised that I haven't more about Morgan.
Was his career in Britain not long enough for him to be well remembered or not noteworthy enough for him to be lauded?
Any comments would be very much appreciated.
Cheers!
Ed
I can recall seeing Dave Morgan on a couple of occasions, notably at Camberwell Baths. I am afraid he did not make too much impact, but his career obviously progressed when he left these shores, and I agree it is a shame, he has not had more recognition in his home country.
A regular in the great tournaments of Germany and Austria until the early 1990 s.Several impressive matches on You Tube/One of a long line of wrestlers not to get full recognition in the UK
Earliest listing for him I currently have:
October 13th, 1965 – London, England
[Shoreditch Town Hall]
Dave Morgan b Allan Kitto (2-1)
Eddie Capelli b Gerry Diprose (2-1)
Peter Maivia b Gerry De Jager (2-1)
Gordon Nelson b Paul Vachon (DQ) Spent most of his time in Germany when he wasn't in Mexico
I remember him from tv in the 60s and saw him live once. I'm sure he was very capable but he seemed just another run of the mill ordinary support player.
An excellent wrestler lived in Camberwell SE London. I believe he was a school teacher at one point so only SE UK exposure. Lost contact with him approx 1970.
Saw him quite a number of times. He was a solid,no nonsense wrestler in the mould of Terry Rudge or Colin Joynson.A very, very good wrestler.
