Interesting! I can’t find, admittedly from a very brief ‘Google’, any “Southern Heavyweight” belt like this, but he does look a bit like the late Tommy Gilbert, father of Eddie and Doug.
Thanks for your comment appreciate, what attracted my attention was that 2 of 3 belts are obviously American, BUT the one he wears around his waist...that one...needs a very special investigation.
Looks too fat in the face to be Tommy Gilbert (to me), but if it is Southern Area, then Steve Clements (Beresford) that we have mentioned on another thread, was wrestling in Tennessee area in the 70's and briefly held the Southern Area tag team titles with Al Greene.
If Steve took his belt with him, maybe he put it on the line a few times, or loaned it to other wrestlers to have pictures taken with?
Yes I agree this man on the photo does look like Clements, and the belt around his waist looks like one of those mysterious historical English Belts.
English or British, Ruslan?
that's a good question Hack, I would wish to know the answer...depends on how OLD that belt was. If it was really old...then English, if its like 1930's then British.
In fact that is Steve Clements, hence him having the belt.
Scroll down, see him in the middle of the Greene brothers http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/bios/s/sir-dudley-clements/
yup that's him, I wasn't quite sure. But yeah Beresford Family owned many historical trophies.
I can make out “VY” on the “Southern” belt, which suggests to me that it’s a “singles” title. As for the one around his waist: didn’t he hold a “world” title in Mexico?
it's one of his "family collection" belts, trying to figure out which title it was emblematic of.
