One of the great Iconic Arenas in the North of England where I enjoyed many
dozen Bouts was TOWER CIRCUS BLACKPOOL!!
Tiered like a Roman Amphitheatre it was absolutely IDEAL for 'Gladiatorial Combat'
from the Spectator point of view!
All the Top Wrestlers of the Day Performed there in the '60's and '70's and it was a
Great Attraction for Wrestling Shows!
With its A5 Size Pocket Size Programme in a mix of B/W and Colour for a Souvenir
afterwards when you walked out the Doors facing you was the Irish Sea and you were
surrounded by a whole Host of Amusements!
Featured Bout from 1960 is ZEBRA KID vs 'DIRTY' JACK PYE!!
Programme to follow!!
MAIN MASK
Blackpool Tower, a splendid venue, with the added whiff of elephants. I enjoyed my visits there whilst living in Poulton le Fylde from 1972 to 1976. Always seemed a bit odd with the wrestling ring in the middle of the circus ring though. The wrestling seemed to move between Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening in the summer, Monday evening in winter. One advantage of Blackpool on a Sunday was that the shops were open.
