1926 Pro Wrestling in USA

Dear Friends,

I am happy to share with you the 'Pro Wrestling Rules' issued by the California State Athletic Commission in 1926. Back then the pro wrestling matches in the State of California weren't restricted to Catch wrestling only and other Internationally recognized styles such as Greco-Roman as well as the traditional American styles (such as Collar & Elbow and Side Hold) were allowed. I don't know if this is of any interest Ruslan —it may be a bit early for you—but I came ax a cutting in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle about Capt James Daly 'the Irish giant' charged with assaulting a police officer who tried to break up a wrestling match at the National Theatre on the Bowery in 1890. The police thought it was for a money prize but Daly said it was only for a medal. He had an interest in the boy Ernest Roeber who at the time was one fall up on a Russian Melkoss. I don;t know what happened to Daly.

Thanks for sharing James, appreciate. Daly was famous all-around athlete, did all kinds of sports and was National Police Gazette champion, back then that NYC newspaper was a major nation-wide authority in all pro sports. Roeber was a great wrestler both amateur and pro. His expertise was Greco-Roman.

I may have an explanation SaxonWolf, you see they don't call Collar and Elbow Irish either. The thing is those were the modern era, current pro wrestling rules. The 1926 catch as catch can pro wrestling wasn't really Lancs catch. They counted pinfall only. When in Old Lancs all kinds of back falls counted, whether it was flying, rolling or pinning. So that was a difference. Plus American professional Collar and Elbow significantly differed from the style of the same name which was popular in Ireland and in Great Britain. So them not referring to the country of origin kind of makes sense.
