John Cullen and the Beech family Co promoted and a later date another of the Cullen family used Ted Beech as Dr Death as his lead wrestler
Ted revealed his alter ego to readers of the Sunday People in 1965 explaining how he met the same opponent three times a week and explaining his injuries were all accidental and bouts were pretty determined. The mainstay of the article was an expose of Wryton putting on a tag match for four consecutive nights are bouts were virtually identical Royals v Cadmans even involvement of Stan Ryland as referred the reporter followed the promotion from I O M to Birmingham and told readers it was same show in fact there were several differences but a hack never wants a story ruined.it was enough to put me off becoming a worker, seriously though Ted Beech also exclusively revealed he was not the southern Dr Death as this was Paul Lincoln,a relative of the Cullens still promoted in the 1960s and his headliner was Dr Death Ted Beech including bouts at the Formby Hall Atherton Cullen family living at Hag Fold I'll speak to an old Wryton driver to find out the name of John Cullens family member.
The 1940 poster describes the ref as Dick the Dormouse from Plymouth. Is this to let the fans know that Smasher Green will be able to live up to his name?
I have had a look at this and my comments are as follows.
His period as a promoter is virtually war time.
Can't see much in the way of any title match.
Billy Riley was billed as World Middle weight champ.
Cullen seemed to have access to all the Wigan Wrestlers and Manchester guys and those coming up from the south because of the war to live in Greater Manchester.
The driving force of his advertising is more in the way of "International Contest" and " unmask the Masked man" contests.
Certainly a man I have forgotten about in terms of his contribution.
I often mention how Bankier and Relwyskow senior built up so much of the north and ensured a healthy survival of the game in the war , but to have as many venues as Cullen , he is up there with them. And yes , for me , a new discovery , he laid a foundation for Wryton , but I know nothing of the story behind that.
In 1942 they were both operating in Hanley. Cullen at the Ice Rink and Wryton at Victoria Hall.
You ask about championship matches , well here is a real snip for you.
Ron, thanks, I understand that basically it was A. Wright's Wryton Promotions which took over the former Cullen's territory. Do you have names of the wrestlers who were associated with Cullen's North-West Promotion? Did he run any titles, KOs, challenge trophies and etc?
Ron, thank you. I was confused with the name of that organization. In the 1940s there was a Manchester based russlin company of the same name, also called North-Western Wrestling Promotions, the owner was Jack Cullen, I think. Are those two related? What happened to the original one, when did it cease to exist?
With these prominent exposes it just indicates that the fans of the 1960s did not mind one way or another

More like 1938-1942. I think he died early in 1943. He lived in Atherton.
The only help I can offer is this possibility.

Ron, Middle-weight BILLY BEECH (I am assuming Jr) THE GOLD BELT HOLDER. Any ideas which title/belt it was?

Cullen was a promoter who did quite a good portfolio of wrestling venues
What he had seemed mainly to pass to Wryton after his death.
He did Chester , Hanley , New Brighton and Warrington and a few more , but died in the early 1940's.
Not sure what context the name of his promotions was. Actual or descriptive.
Yes Ruslan , this was a Manchester Guy who pretended to be an Irish man.
Shaun O'Shea , but real name Jack or Paul Jefferson.
Of them all he probably made the most outlandish claims.
Came up with fake McManners and Two Rivers , Logan brothers , Dr Death etc at the drop of a hat.
As long as the spelling had a small variation , I think he got away with it.
