On Sunday 29th January, it will be 50 years since I first saw Kendo in the ring. It was at the Ice Stadium in Nottingham, in a wrestling match and a judo match, little did I know then where it would lead, overnights a tour in 1992, drama memorable moments, even chatting to him at Blackpool last year. Also on the bill was an 8 man tag tournament.
McManus and Logan Bert Royal and Vic Faulkner Les Kellett and Masambula Jackie Pallo and Leon Arras, plus a title bout between Albert Wall and Andy Robbins. To some this may not mean a great deal but to me it is something i will always treasure. Maybe someday , someone will explain why it means so much. When I go to the great ring in the sky will the blue eyes be in heaven and the heels in hell or the other way round. Anyway thanks to all who have made this possible.
Ten years ago, this poster was ranked Number 100 in the countdown of the best wrestling posters.
The absence of photos; the misspelling of a name. Contributing factors, perhaps.
Thanks Graham, nice recall. All in all, a few disappointments for the punters there.
Crikey, starting out with that bill, the only way was downwards. You saw all the biggest names in one night.
I bet you remember the noises, the smells, the atmosphere, possibly the smoke? Maybe outraged fans getting very het up? Those elements are impossible to describe fully in writing.
I've seen great bills at that venue. Please describe the ring set up.
Too much to ask if McManus got to grips with Leon Arras? If he did, must have been the only time.
