I think I've read a lot of Posts on here-including the Old Forum-but don't immediately recall
BERNARD in particular telling of a time(s) when he saw Opponents trying to Unmask the GHOUL??-Surely some must have had a go? Did you ever Witness this BERNARD?
If yes,-how close to succeeding was achieved?-Which Adversary(ies)??
Was his Sinister MASK(like KENDO'S) really difficult to remove??-If you didn't actually see
the other Wrestler trying to Unmask him BERNARD-Did you hear a Story or too from a Fight(s) elsewhere??
MAIN MASK
Main Mask, Jack Pye did not need to "Make a name for himself". That was made many years before.
No, I don't remember seeing anything in the programmes.
Thanx BERNARD!-I'm not surprised JACK PYE had a go-I believe he tried with BARTELLI'S MASK
as well-wanting to 'make a name for himself!!'On the 'stories angle' I was just wondering if you recalled
seeing anything on this in Programme Notes at the time?-In the '40's/'50's these Notes were really
informative on the Wrestlers and their latest exploits!! As you say-apart from THE MAT MAGAZINE-
NORMAN MORRELL'S Monthly and the Newspapers- the Programmes were the only other source of
Wrestling 'News' of the day!!
MAIN MASK
Well a few tried to unmask him, but it appeared that The Ghoul was too big and powerful for them to get very far.
The mask was a very tight elastic substance and the only person that I saw who got it up over his mouth area was Jack Pye.
Now at the time all this looked real ,but of course now we now how the suspense was built in a controlled manner.
I never heard any other stories, but I must say that I never even saw any results from other venues in those days.
We did not have the internet and papers generally did not cover results from other areas.
Only the Newcastle results in the sunday newspaper, which I am sure was called the Sunday Sun.
