I know that Max Crabtree has received a fair amount of criticism on this forum over the years but I thought that he revitalised the title fight scene a bit when he returned to Joint Promotions in the mid-seventies. I started watching wrestling in the summer of 1977 and there were some great title fights on TV over the next year or so. The ones I remember as the best were:-
July 1977: Vic Faulkner beat Jim Breaks to regain the British Welterweight tile (the title was later declared vacant because of interference by Bert Royal).
December 1977: Jim Breaks beat Vic Faulkner to regain the British Welterweight title (at the Royal Albert Hall).
February 1978: The Dynamite Kid beat Jim Breaks to win the British Welterweight title.
June 1978: Tony St.Clair beat Pat Roach to retain the British Heavyweight title.
September 1978: Marty Jones beat Mark Rocco in a bout for both the British Light-Heavyweight and Heavy-Middleweight titles.
As a young fan I remember being very excited about these bouts and remember them all as great bouts.
Any title fight with Steve Viedor did loads for the credibility of Professional Wrestling because you would expect "the handsome young muscleman from Croydon "to win whereas in fact he usually lost convincingly.
The December 1977 Breaks/Faulkner fight was the final Wednesday evening broadcast

The Bill Howes European mid-heavyweight title match with Jacques Lageat on Cup Final Day was a fantastic exhibition of wrestling.

McManus v Pallo on Cup Final Day 1963 for the Southern Area Welterweight title.
British Commonwealth Heavyweight title at Liverpool Stadium between Count Bartelli (holder) and Steve Veidor (challenger). Bartelli 2-1.
Gwyn Davies versus Steve Viedor in 1976 now on You Tube
I saw a wonderful 15 round draw between George Kidd and Johnny Stead at Newcastle.
A 1-1 draw and a feast of good clean scientific wrestling for the enthusiast.
Mark Rocco kicking Bert Royal's arse for the British heavy middle weight belt 1978 ish. (I think)
