I know that Max Crabtree has received a fair amount of criticism on this forum over the years but I thought that he revitalised the title fight scene a bit when he returned to Joint Promotions in the mid-seventies. I started watching wrestling in the summer of 1977 and there were some great title fights on TV over the next year or so. The ones I remember as the best were:-
July 1977: Vic Faulkner beat Jim Breaks to regain the British Welterweight tile (the title was later declared vacant because of interference by Bert Royal).
December 1977: Jim Breaks beat Vic Faulkner to regain the British Welterweight title (at the Royal Albert Hall).
February 1978: The Dynamite Kid beat Jim Breaks to win the British Welterweight title.
June 1978: Tony St.Clair beat Pat Roach to retain the British Heavyweight title.
September 1978: Marty Jones beat Mark Rocco in a bout for both the British Light-Heavyweight and Heavy-Middleweight titles.
As a young fan I remember being very excited about these bouts and remember them all as great bouts.
@Hack Hello Hack, yes when Max Crabtree returned to Joint Promotions in the mid-seventies he gave titles to some great young wrestlers (Tony St.Clair, Marty Jones, Mark Rocco, Johnny Saint and The Dynamite Kid) and started showing title bouts on TV much more regularly than they had been shown previously. I think that the late seventies were a very exciting time to watch wrestling. Sadly, as we know, most of these new champions left Joint Promotions within a few years and we all know the rest of the story.
