CLIFF BELSHAW-WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION

One of my Favourite Wrestlers in the WELTERWEIGHT Division was JACK DEMPSEY!

Like TOMMY MANN in the Division above-I saw JACK as a Rugged,Dour and Solid

Wrestler with All the Credentials to be a Great Champion-which he was!

Now in the 1950's and 1960's DEMPSEY had two 'Thorns' in his side with regard to his

Tenure as Title Holder!-The First of these was the Champion before him who he doggedly

pursued-TONY LAWRENCE-A Great Agile and Skilful Wrestler from Whom he finally

managed to Wrest the Title from in 1953!

The Second of these proved much more of a 'Problem' to DEMPSEY when it came to

Holding onto his Belt!-This Man was an Exceptionally Skilful Wrestler who turned out to be

a Major Threat and Challenge to JACK and Who 'wouldn't go away'!

CLIFF BELSHAW-Sometimes Billed as BEAUMONT took the BRITISH WELTERWEIGHT

Title off DEMPSEY and then had the Audacity to keep hold of it!-The Reign of BELSHAW

as Champion neatly cut the Longevity and Tenure of JACK into two!

CLIFF Won the Title from DEMPSEY in 1959-thus beginning an almighty Struggle over

this Belt!-Below I Share some of BELSHAW's Battles during his Championship Reign-

Starting with a Title Defence for the New Champion against either BRIAN BURKE or

Future Title Holder-ALAN DENNISON!-Pearl Harbour Day 1959!!....
