I was just watching on-line matches at the Royal Albert Hall in 1963 and Belle Vue in 1964. At both venues at that time there was no vertical corner pad; just the three padded "knots" where the ropes met.
This gets me to wondering what the history of the corner pad is?
It must have arrived very soon after. I wonder whose idea it was? It became essential by the end of that decade.
Any thoughts, anyone?
In my day (1963 - 1967) I came across both types of padding. This depending on the promotor and which type of ring that he had.
Cheers
