Dear Phill need your help on the Swiss Belt Wrestling Rules. Could you please show this photo to your Swiss friends and ask them if they know anything about it. Time: 1880s-90s. Note: belt is made of stout leather and has two handles on the sides to take hold of.

Hi Ruslan,

I've had my feelers out on the question of your belt, but without any success. Somebody however suggested that it may be a belt from Turkey, you know the ritual using olive oil to cover their bodies before a bout!

Thanks Phil. In Switzerland in the late 1800s they had 3 wrestling styles:

1. Schwingen

2. Lutte Libre

3. Belt Wrestling

Sadly I couldn't find the belt wrestling rules in old newspapers...I am talking about English speaking papers...but locals may know what it was.
