It would be good if the author of these topics were to come back to justify the opening comments; otherwise there is no discussion.
He was rather effete and just focused on the act of being an imposing emcee inside the ring. It makes one wonder what system was at work to give someone like him such a post-war push when there were clearly more worthy alternatives. The time and the nature of the business were not especially suited to embracing real or apparent homosexuals.
I am inclined to agree with Anglo. Francis P Blake had a long career in wrestling dating back to pre-war years and his involvement with Dale Martin commenced in the immediate post war years. He often appeared too just go through the motions without much involvement and in the latter stages of his career his performance was decidedly lack lustre. I remember reading in a wrestling programme that prior to becoming a wrestling MC he was in the entertainment industry and was a long term resident of Soho where he was regarded as a "character" !
What makes you rate him so much?
I thought he was dreadful. Unprepared, uninterested, lazy. Seemed detached from the importance that some of us fans attached to the bouts.
What have I missed about him, please?
