It's been a grim year, but we can end it with a smile, thanks to the very talented Andy
A Christmas Poem
From Andy
The year was 2020 but it hasn’t been a good’un
As I reflect, surrounded by mince pies and Christmas puddin’
Can only hope that next year is a bloody sight much better
I’m hoping so, it should be though, cos I wrote Santa a letter
I explained to him the year we’ve had, all locked up in our homes
No contact face to face, mainly Zoom and on our phones
Facebook was our saviour, cos all our friends are on it
But by the time I learn to use to it, they’ll be another Halley’s Comet
I told Santa all important things, this year’s been very tough
But we had the old stiff upper lip, we didn’t make a fuss
We worked from home, we taught the kids, they all know how to bake
There’s no mince pies for us this year, just banana bread and cake
I told him of the Thursdays when we clapped outside our door
And I told him of the heroes, like Captain Sir Tom Moore
I told him we shall not forget the ones who did us proud
Doctors, nurses, care home workers, shout their names out loud
I told him of the little girl who stopped me in the park
She said ‘Please keep your distance’ as she handed me a mask
I said ‘Thanks, but I don’t need it here cos outside is not a risk’
She said ‘I think that you should put it on, you’re scaring all the kids’
I told him how the children tried to brighten up our day
With rainbow pictures, unicorns, and just the things they say
My Grandson asked ‘Is Santa real?’ and I told him it was true
He said ‘Well Santa must be vulnerable cos he’s old, just like you’
He was worried about Christmas and not getting any toys
I said ‘Santa won’t forget you or any girls and boys’
I explained to him how Santa flies his sleigh around all night
He said ‘Grandad, that’s not magic, Santa’s testing his eyesight’
I told Santa we appreciate the things we took for granted
And I told him of my garden and all the trees I’ve planted
I’ve heard that Amazon is thriving, something else that I’d just mention
But it’s good because that rain forest still needs all of our attention
I finished off by telling him what I would like this year
For people to think of others, to show some Christmas cheer
I don’t want no aftershave or trousers made of Spandex
Just give me half a ton of sanitizer and fifty thousand Andrex
With Christmas nearly on us, I said to my friend Maxine
‘The best present ever is the news about this vaccine’
She said ‘I’ll not be having it, so don’t even pretend’
I said ‘Are you scared of needles?’ She said ‘No, I’m your imaginary friend’
I cannot leave this rhyme though without saying a few goodbyes
To some entertaining heroes who will live on in the skies
Farewell to Eddie (Large), Bobby (Ball), give a hand for Maradona
And this week dear old Barbara, what a real true Carry On-er!
So this year is nearly over, it’s not one we’re going to miss
If you say you’ve enjoyed this year, you really take the piss
But soon it will be Christmas and then 2021
Take care, stay safe, enjoy yourselves – Merry Christmas Everyone!
Well done Andy that's really good.
