Two who spring to mind are Ken Joyce and Alan Serjent. Two top welterweights who I would love to have seen matched. Your opinions please.
Bob Sherry (Jimmy Niblett) has to be in this class of wrestlers, who were great without any gimmicks.
Cheers
George Gordienko
Clayton Thomson. What you saw was what you got. Gimmick free, and an all time great to boot!
Among those not already mentioned:- Billy Joyce, Dennis Mitchell, Billy Howes, Francis Sullivan, Jim Hussey, Reg Williams, Ernie Riley.
Alan later "Tiger" Wood. Always made it look real, and if the action did get "real" you just knew here was a man more than capable of looking after himself. Came up in a hard school, The Snakepit at Wigan.
Bert Royal, Barry Douglas, Steve Grey, Billy Robinson, Johnny Saint. All amazing wrestlers who didn’t gimmicks in the ring.
Many from my days.
Norman Walsh, Dai Sullivan, Sandy Orford, Geoff Portz, Johnny Allan. Do I need to go on.?
These boys knew the score and how to build a bout.
To follow on from Ray Steele, Gil Singh, another heavyweight towards the end of the TV era who was just a solid wrestler, no frills.
Ray Steele he was another wrestler that didn't have a gimmick. Always thought he gave value for money when he wrestled.
Albert Wall. He made it all look so real and so important.
