Hi Ron.Your 1/9 had rocketed up to 2/0, when I was there.
The view was surprisingly good. It was upstairs, but you had a choice of 3 sides. The other side had a fire exit door, a commentator's box but no benches.
In fact I thought that the view from upstairs was better than the downstairs 4/0 seats away from the ring. The ringside seats were 5/0 in those days.
Do the other Newcastle boys agree ?
Interesting that Newcastle was 4/6 , 3/6 and only 1/9 pay at door.
3/6 seems universal for a view mid range.
Come on , the North East lads , what sort of view was it for 1/9.
Certainly when Belle Vue was full , if you went cheap you had to go where you were put and it was awful for pillars . When attendances dwindled you could chose your own seat although never right at ringside , Ringside must have been almost a season ticket , same people every week.
Actually I have never sat anywhere near front row ever.
G
Great to see it so well preserved. This is the very simple way it was put in the papers.
At least I can add the prices.
Belle Vue at that time was 6/ 3/6 and 2/6.
That six pence cheaper in the unreserved was a fair bit of money.
I seem to remember the matinee in the late 1950's was six pence when I was a kid. So was a bag of chips.
Brilliant stuff MM.
Smell!!!! Yes, my collection also sinks of Olde Times.
But beautifully.
Mrs Main Mask has the right nose.
