An amazingly clear quality copy of the 1977 televised encounter between Giant Haystacks & Kendo Nagasaki has been uploaded to Youtube. It was on the site previously but disappeared for whatever reason. The picture quality is excellent for the era.
Some interesting observations, how Kendo was allowed to bring Haystacks to canvas so many times during the bout when even the British heavyweight champion was unable/not allowed too. Also who are the 2 Asian looking gentleman who enter the ring between the 1ts and 2nd round, and appear to have a beef about something. Perhaps with Nagasaki? Or Haystacks themselves?
There is also a short tribute to Haystacks which has been uploaded recently which features a short clip of Haystacks and Big Shirley bouncing Nagasaki between them, again, excellent picture quality! This may come from the tag match which featured Rex Strong as Kendo’s tag partner. As far as I know this tag bout has never been released to the public.
Finally a titbit from Japan. What appears to be a television advertisment for Giant Baba’s promotion from 1985. A 6 man tag match with Baba on one team and Giant Haystacks on the other. Baba was reputedly 6’ 10.” Both giants appear to look around the same height. The only other face I seem to recognise is possibly The Great Muta, in full face paint.
Agreed, might not be a cut, but if not, then theatrical blood appears to be applied at 12.25.
As for who would take a razor to their head for 30 quid, probaly Danny Lynch!
No cut in my humble opinion. A cut like that would flow until stopped by compression. I think wrestlers had mostly stopped cutting themselves by this time. Rocco was big on the bloody face thing but there was no normal flow, the ‘blood’ was just smeared for effect. Blood capsules work pretty well, and who’s going to take a razor to their head for £30 ish a night?
Agreed, it was at about the 12.25 mark
The more I know, the less I understand.
Why were Best Wryton promoting on Norman Morrell's patch?
Who was this MC?
How was the Yorkshire Ripper allowed to sit ringside?
Lovely detail of the split mask and to let it run for several minutes. Great planning.
Can anyone identify the moment when the cut happens?
The Kendo vs Haystacks match is very clear footage and it isn't one of those shown on the Wrestling Channel. I wonder what the source is?
It's not Muta, but The Great Kabuki, Muta was always in decent shape, quite stocky.
Great clip, good old Haystacks.
