Bearing in mind that I never reached the higher more famous levels of wrestling, I did start out using my real name of Phil Kenyon, but changed after a year or so to Mike Agusta (Augusta), why change? Well partly to hide the fact of being a wrestler, and partly to save that little bit more of extra money!!!!
Anglo, I've told you this before mate!
"...Charlie Fisher, Bob Kirkwood, Vic Faulkner, Paul Lincoln. All ok...."
Paul Lincoln was really James Lincoln.
But he took his ring name before becoming known, right at the outset. He certainly also bore a resemblance to McManus and was the same weight.
I do think this name choice was more than a coincidence.
No I do not think so he was too well known in his own right as a wrestler who usually lost the very reverse of McManus who never lost
So in taking his ring name, he was trying to deceive the public into thinking they were going to see Mick McManus?
Mr Pringle is correct with Michael Gale
Hi anglo, I think Mick Mcmichaels real name was Michael Gale, the ring name used in his early days as a pro.
Regards, Ian.
Billy Robinson, Saxonwolf! We've been around the houses chasing Bill Kenton ☺
Are you sure about George Kidd, Ron? Seems too good to be true.
So Mike Augusta not only took on an assumed name but also fled to Switzerland to escape the taxman! We start to dig ever deeper into the business ....
Albert Wall or Walls?
Czeslaw -- his Christian name.
Could we imagine Tibor Szakacs and Zoltan Boscik were made up?
If Ernest Baldwin created his exciting ring-name he was off-target. Basil Riley similarly.
Some just retained the surname: Elrington, Bridges, Kincaid.
Some tinkered with the real name: Logan, Elijah, Masambula.
Hussey, Rebel Ray Hunter, Mal Kirk, Jim Moran, Norman Morrell, Jack Dale.
Was Al Hayes his real name? Seems so. Zaranoff? Paul Mitchell? Clive Myers?
Charlie Fisher, Bob Kirkwood, Vic Faulkner, Paul Lincoln. All ok.
There's a big middle-ground of uncertainties which Bill's interesting topic may clarify:
Tony Charles
Ted Heath
Peter Preston
Caswell Martin
Pete Roberts
and can someone please clarify Mick McMichael.

Les Kellett , Albert Wall , Adrian Street , George Kidd ,
But is it a case of more did than did not or the reverse.
I could not call it.
Colin Joynson?
Dave (Fit) Finlay?
Billy Robinson?
Jim Breaks?
