Reading Eddie Rose's most interesting article I remember reading a story about a prominent (Australian?) wrestler who developed an eye disease from dirt on the ring canvas and went blind. Anyone know anything of this or am I misremembering ?

No matter how predetermined the bouts the potential for injury is ever present and one of the reasons Professional Wrestlers have the admiration of the fans
I'm still suffering James: arthritis in my neck and lower back both of which are treated by medication and gentle mobilising exercises. I have loss of power in my arms and legs as a result of nerve damage. I've had broken ribs, a dislocated rib which was even worse, collar bones, lost teeth to forearms and knees, eye damage leading to short sightedness etc etc. The list goes on but with no regrets I still try and keep mobile with a couple of wwalks each day and a daily excercise routine. Cheers! Eddie Rose,.
Yes trachoma ended a few careers and ruined others.
Thanks Saxon - you're right. I've found the answer in "Whatever happened to Gorgeous George' It was Strangler Lewis. Gus Sonnenberg suffered from what was called tracoma but and no doubt a number of others including George Lenihan did also. It was apparently cured by scraping bluestone over the lid.
Didn't something like that happen to US heavyweight champ, Ed "Strangler" Lewis?
