Continuing our Theme of Overseas Visitors to British Rings in the early 1960's-we turn
our Attention to those Greek Gladiators who added a certain Style and Charisma to
Wrestling Bills then!
The Art of Wrestling in GREECE goes back to Ancient Times and is still part of Greek
Culture to this Day!
Coming over here in the late 1950's we have MILO POPOCOPOLIS-See my Topic-
'MORE FROM HARRINGAY ARENA' to see him Feature on a 1958 Bill-a Greek Heavyweight with Skill-Style and Strength!
Pitched against our Top Men we see him for example in a Bout at RYDE I.O.W-against
BIG BRUNO ELRINGTON!-Greek Mat Men were an Interesting Dimension within British
Wrestling and were largely really Popular with their Tanned Good Looks and ADONIS-LIKE
Physiques!-Not bad for a 41 Year Old!
Another Visitor from GREECE was VASSILIOS MANTOPOULIS-He was their WELTERWEIGHT Champion and had a Compact-Rippled-Six-Pack Physique!-Having a
'Reputation' for escaping Moves such as Headlocks with Fantastic Breath-Taking Acrobatic
Moves-He was a Joy to watch! He had a Polished Style and was known for his Stamina
and Endurance and VASSILIOS was a great draw in our Wrestling Halls and Arenas!
