He was a first-class MC who epitomised style and sophistication. He was also an excellent referee notably for Devereux Promotions at their prestigious venue Wimbledon Palais.
I was the MC on a couple of shows for Brian Dixon and John Harris was also there just to run the shows, and remember thinking what a waste of a great MC just running the show, i'am sure he could have done both jobs.
I wonder why he was sacked? conflict of interests perhaps? He did work for Orig Williams as a referee around that era and subsequently had to learn the 10 count in Welsh! He was a top rate M.C. but i don't think he was Master Of Ceremonies for Orig on any of the RESLO recordings those honours went to fluent Welsh speakers..
Hi Peter, I will bow to your greater knowledge on this. He was though definitely working for All Star Promotions in 1987 and I had read that he was sacked in 1980 by Joint Promotions. Maybe another forum reader could inform me of the full story and where I am wrong?
I also agree with you Peter about how time flies. I hear songs on the radio that were out in the mid 1980's and it only seems a few years ago when I first heard them.
He came across as a "gentleman"He was definitely an MC in 1984 because a remember him announcing the next event would be in January 1985 really emphazing 85.I thought what a long time in the future. Here we are 37 years later!
I don't think that he was ever a professional wrestler himself but I understand that he had been an amateur wrestler and was a good trainer of wrestlers. I believe that he trained Bobby Barnes, Jon Cortez, Leon Fortuna and Dick Conlon amongst others.
After working as an MC for Joint Promotions through the 1960's and 1970's, I understand that he was sacked in 1980. I don't know why he was sacked, maybe other forum readers know more about this than me. He was then taken on as an MC by Brian Dixon and appeared on ITV again in 1987 when Brian Dixon's All Star Promotions started being shown on TV.
