On paper a VERY exciting match thats going to put bums on seats no problem. But ...the reality is it somehow didnt really work for me. A bit better when they were younger and in the later bouts absolutely dire. Am I right or am I right?

Seems they did that submission a bit:
The bout only goes a few rounds before the ref stop is really only a teaser for Nagasaki being unmasked. It wasn't anything special but it was passable. The only way for Haystacks to have been more enjoyable was if he were a rougher, more violent brawler, but that wouldn't have flown on TV.
The 1977 match that is on the other thread is interesting because Haystacks is so much slimmer than in later years. I mean, he is still a big bloke but nothing like the girth of his CWA (Otto Wanz/Austria) and final WCW era.
The 1977 match is also one of the only times that a much smaller opponent has appeared to totally dominate and batter Haystacks. On UK TV at least.
The footage of him taking on Giant Baba showed he could and would bump for other people as well.
His matches late 80's and into the 90's were very predictable and the novelty value wore off. He was still a bill topper, but i think this was more in anticipation of what might occur. His matches always left me feeling a little flat.
I think Pat Roach v Haystacks worked better.
But in reality you could not vary a Haystacks match very much.
He stuck around because his huge size was quite amazing to see and he had a good heathen look. It's been said before on here that we don't think he was six eleven. Six Eight tops.
The thing is , if he had been six four , I doubt if he would have got very far.
Just my opinion though.
