I really liked Kent Walton, I really did. I knew he had an accent, but I would never have known it was Mid Atlantic as some have said?? He was, I thought as a young kid, marvelous to listen to and painted a picture of what was going on as I watched it on a fuzzy picture.
I only ever saw the wrestling on an old, small, black and white TV so I couldn't see much of the detail at ringside so Kent played a huge part in my enjoyment of the matches.
However, now that I'm older (note: I didn't say wiser) and able to watch WOS on You Tube I now see how much detail Kent missed. I suppose that's natural, he knew it was a work, so the action in the ring must have become mundane to him over the years, but I think he also missed some angles along the way, too. Things perhaps discussed before hand to be sure and mention; to me it looks like he was distracted - perhaps lighting another fag. Boy, did he smoke!!
However, the match in question is on You Tube between Saint and Breaks: I haven't been able to find it for some time so some details may be off a little. Breaks throws Saint out of the ring to Kent's right and after some time out on the floor, Saint gets back in and almost immediately Kent says there's a problem with a cut on Saint's head above his hairline: Saint wore his hair long at that time. How Kent ever saw that is beyond me, perhaps he remembered that day! There was a little action after Saint got back in and I'm fairly sure you can see him tucking the blade back in his trunks while he's on the canvas. The match was stopped in short order.
Does anyone remember this match and the circumstances?
Suppose his view of what was going on changed as the years went by. The same with a lot of fans
