No doubt there were female tag teams, but at the time I saw lady wrestlers in the 1960s and first half of the 1970s I didn't see any. At that time I would think that just having female wrestlers on the bill was an attraction in itself. In (I would think late 1970 and 80s) Ron Farrar put on mixed tag matches.

I think i read a few years ago that ladies tag team wrestling started in the USA in the late 30's. The best female tag teams i have been lucky to see live in Manchester England was The Red Hot Mama's (Pippa L' vinn and Shelby Beach).

The first ladies match I can find is June 1964. The Daily Express of 19 November, 1964 reported that no women would be allowed to wrestle on television. In the 1960s there was a lot of council opposition to female wrestling and matches were often cancelled at the insistence of the council. Some councils allowed female matches and they became increasingly accepted towards the end of the decade. Promoter Jack Taylor was one of the pioneers of female wrestling. The first female tag match I can find was on 12th June, 1965, so I think you can fairly safely say the first female tag match was 1965.

There were lots of ladies tag matches on Brian Dixon's bills in the 1970's and 80's. One of the most successful teams was Mitzi mueller and Paula Valdez. They were billed as British Tag champions. After Paula went with Fit Finlay as Princess Paula Mitzi teemed up with the likes of Cherokee Princess,Nicky Monroe,Gemma Best and Rusty Blair. The principal heals usually involved Hellcat Haggerty. She had a variety of partners such as Lolita Loren,Lena Blair, Busty Keegan and eventually the formidable Klondyke Kate This pair took the British title from Mitzi and Paula at Southampton in 1979. However because there wern't that many female Wrestlers you also got mitzi partnering the likes of Lena Blair and Busty Keegan against Gemma Best and Rusty Blair who were usually partnered by Klondyke Kate.
1965 is On The Money.
