What a superb bill with Kellett, Pallo and Starr all on the same show. However, the one I would have liked to have seen was Taylor versus Sharron. I recall promoting Sharron against Majid Ackra some years ago at Halton British Legion in Runcorn. Kellett versus Ginsberg was my top of the bill with a tag to finish and a girls' bout just before the interval so Sharron/Ackra was to be a nice little opener. Sharron was quite depressed that night as, before picking up Kellett, he had been to visit his father who was seriously ill in hospital. He had a quiet word with me and said that he really wasn't in the mood to do the usual "cowboys and indians" and would I mind if he and Majid just "wrestled". It was still worked out of course to go six cats but it was an excellent contest full of holds and moves which you just don't see today. It was a little bit like throwing pearls before swine and I don't think the Halton British Legion audience really appreciated what was going on but, unless Les can remember differently, it is my betting that Taylor/Sharron would have been very similar. I know that Sharron had a great deal of respect for Taylor and he did enjoy, just occasionally, delivering a "proper wrestling bout".
When I last booked Les Kellett (versus Klondyke Jake at The Gala Baths, West Bromwich) I remember him stipulating that I had to book Guy Mitchell also as by this time Les was no longer driving and Mitchell was acting as his chauffeur. I knew nothing about him but knew that if I matched him with Ian Wilson he would be in good hands and, indeed, they had a nice little bout.
More memories of Les from Eddie Rose

Here’s one of Jackie Pallo’s bills with Les Kellett top of the bill.

Fantastic selection of posters featuring the one and only Les Kellett.
I can well believe Les wrestled in 1938 , I have quite a few of him in 1940 including this gem
Hi Les,
On the above bill you were wrestling as a heavyweight! You must have lost a lot of weight over the years!
Cheers
I recognise the photo of the lady as it's one I used on my own posters. It's a picture of Lena Blair.
