They were both titans . Although small of stature Lou Marco had a formidable presence and it was television that really established his reputation as the number one referee for Dale Martin. I felt he did become a trifle irritating and did attempt to hog the limelight too much but it was very sad his career as a referee was terminated after a bad road accident. I much prefered Max Ward. In his days with Paul Lincoln he was brilliant and very much part of the show, probably a necessity as there was often a shortage of wrestlers. He eagerly became involved in challenge matches even against such heels as Paul Lincoln in his Dr Death guise and the formidable Don Steadman. For me the most hilarious part of his performance was in a very serious tone he informed a errant wrestler that he was going to be reported to the British Wrestling Federation ! Max happily made the transition , although predictably toned down , from Lincoln to Dale Martin and his prowess can be viewed on numerous wrestling vidoes on You Tube. A wonderful character from the great days of wrestling.
