On the Assirati situation, I seem to recall Lou Thesz saying that Bert did indeed make a challenge one night, and that Lou tried to meet him after the show, to see if they could work out some dates.
I don't think Lou realised that Bert was effectively black-balled by Joint Promotions, and thought it would be easy for them both to make a lot of money.
I didn't realise he came back in the 1970's, but then again it is years since I read his book and would have to go back and read it again.
