In BRITISH Rings-There were a Handful of Very Good MASKED Wrestlers who had Longish Runs
beneath The Bonnet!!
My Favourite was BLUE MASK who Frequented NEW ST. JAMES HALL in NEWCASTLE on Many
Occasions!-With Massive Shoulders he was a Miner and Very Strong!-Going into The STRAWBERRY
PUB opposite The Stadium-He would duck into the Toilets to Pull-On his Famous BLUE Hood-Then
Stride Thru The Milling Throngs outside The Hall and gain entry!
In JANUARY 1940 at This Venue-He Defeated and Unmasked GREEN ASP-Another on Many Match
Winning Streak!
Others Included DARK OWL-RED MASK and GREY OWL!
But there was also a Skilful and Colourful MASKED Competitor Dubbed The GOLDEN PHANTOM!
Bedecked with Quite a Spectacular Costume-it seems he's caused a 'Furore' in EUROPEAN Rings
and Run-Up a Long Unbeaten String of Victories!
Here he is Below-Wrestling for RELWYSKOW at LEITH in EDINBURGH at The Forerunner to The
ELDORADO STADIUM in 1938!
But Who was he??
MAIN MASK
Have not got complete proof , but because he was advertised as Hungarian I worked out that he was possibly Steve Szalay or Mike Brendel. They were both running as Hungarians at that time. Brendel the heavier man. He was one who certainly got beaten but conveniently did not unmask.
No doubt that we are looking at 1938/39
