Wrestling started at the Newly-Opened LIVERPOOL STADIUM in 1930-in Tandem with
KINGS HALL BELLE VUE MANCHESTER!
Initially in the Early Years Shows were 'Shared' between Wrestling and Boxing and the
Arena was one of Real Pugilism!
Even Decades later my own Visits to this 'Pit of a Place' left me with the 'Abiding Smell and
Taste' of the Hall-the Smell and Taste of Blood and Sweat!
Below I Share one of my own Original Gems-A Mega-Rare 1933 Programme and it's in
Mint Condition!-Enjoy!.....

It's there to see that even as early as this Bankier (Apollo) had started a great venture with Best that was to go on until his death I think in 1949.
Oakeley of course wanted to do Liverpool so then promoted at Stanley Track.
You're so right MM.I think it was probably an escape from reality albeit brief.
Interesting to note the ref doubled as M.C too.
And the Bouts including ATHOLL OAKELEY-Spelled wrong in the Programme!
I know HACK will like this one as he's keen on 1930's Wrestling!!
