It could be possible that it's not a case of sloppy reporting, remember that during the era that the article was published Tv Times "ONLY" covered ITV and not as today virtually every channel. So they may have chosen to ignore McManus's appearances on their "RIVAL" channel the BBC and stick to only their channel's appearances. Just a thought.
i don't think Mick Mcmanus claimed only 20 years as most likely sloppy reporting from this Val person. remember Mcmanus first appeared on TV in 1940s in broadcast by BBC of wrestling
