Anglo Italian
The fourth most featured wrestler on television ever.
Great record and a versatile household name.
I used to think his name was meant to lure fans into thinking McManus was on the bill, but it must have been legit.
Yet another great Yorkshire "Terrier" passes in 2018.
R.I.P.

A tribute to Mick McMichael, Evergreen and Golden

R.I.P. Mick - always good value for money, wrestled with a smile, especially against another great, Vic Faulkner. Thanks for the memories.

Mick McMichael falls into that category of wrestler I just didn't appreciate at the time. There were so many of them we couldn't love them all. In recent years he's moved into another category, those I know I should have appreciated more (there are a good few in this category - Roberts, Charles, Czeslaw). For me the name was a barrier, a suggestion of McManus, who he definitely wasn't. But he was McMichael. A wrestler, and a blooming good one. Another sad loss.

RIP Mick lovely guy,be greatly missed in Germany

A very good wrestler, versatile, skillful, and always value for money, under appreciated in some eyes I don't know why, he was entertaining, never boring, my condolences to Micks family and friends, R.I.P. Mick

Sad to hear a report from British Wrestlers reunion site that Mick has passed away.
He was a credit to wrestling, and was as "popular" as his billing said he was .RIP Mick

Ever Green and Golden is a lovely tribute. His early identity of Michael Gale did not come first but ran side by side with Mick McMichael. I proved similar with Bill Robinson /Bill Kenton.
Strange how wrestling works. You can't leave much more than for everyone to say what a great guy you were. RIP Mick.

A very sad loss to wrestling. Mick McMichael had a great combination of skill and power, always wrest;ed with a smile and at times had good banter with the crowd as well. Very underrated wrestler, and he always seemed to actually enjoy himself in the ring, particularly against the late great Vic Faulkner. Now neither of theses two greats are with us. RIP Mick McMichael.

As has been sugeested, Mick was just "there", but could be guaranteed to give a good show.
Only once did I see him live, and was far from disppointed.
Sleep well, Mick.

Nice story from Tony St Clair
Working in Germany also meant spending more time with Mick McMichael, which always brought humour. "One time we went to a department store and Mick -- who was wearing his kilt as usual -- said 'Come with me, we'll have some fun here.'
"We went to the top floor and he started trying on dressing gowns, so the assistant asked him if he wanted help. 'Yeah, I'm trying this on. Where are the slippers?' 'Oh that's on the second floor; you're on the fifth now.' So Mick started going down the escalator, still in the gown, with the assistant chasing after him.
"We get down there and he tried on the slippers and starts asking 'Where are the pipes?' 'Ground floor, tobacco.' So now we've got two sales people chasing him. He gets there and puts the pipe in his mouth and asks 'Where's the wine?' Oh, it's down in the basement where the groceries are.'
"Down in the basement there's a woman distributing sample of wine, so he asks 'Could I try a glass?' So he's got a pipe, slippers, dressing gown, and a glass of wine, and then says 'Whenever I drink wine, I need a bit of cheese' which ends up with the woman from the cheese counter chasing after him. At the end of all of this, about an hour or an hour and a half, he says 'I'll have to think about it; thank you very much.' He took it all off where he stood and we walked out the store!"

Sad news about Mick McMichael, remember great bouts versus Vic Faulkner. RIP.

A very good wrestler whose skill and ability was acknowledged by wrestling fans around the country. Another sad loss of which there have been far too many recently.

Over the years I saw Mick Mc.Michael many times; particularly at The King's Hall, Belle Vue, Manchester, where he had many exciting bouts against Brian Maxine. I also recall Belle Vue outings against Adrian Street, Bobby Barnes, Peter Preston and Johnny Saint amongst others. I recall a particularly classy tag team match in which Mc.Michael teamed with Jeff Kaye against Johnny Saint and John Naylor. In tag I also recall him partnering Jeff Kaye at The Gaiety Theatre. Rhyl, against Paul Mitchell and Mark Rocco and, at The De Montfort Hall, Leicester, with Dave Taylor against local villains Jon and Pete Lapaque.
He also acquitted himself well against heavier opposition and I recall him giving a good account of himself against Steve Haggetty at The Gaiety Theatre, Rhyl, and Abe Ginsberg at The Pavilion Gardens, Buxton.
Amongst the many other times I saw him I recall bouts against John Naylor (Pavilion Gardens, Buxton), Mark Rocco (Gaiety Theatre, Rhyl), Paul Mitchell (Town Hall, Stockport), Alan Dennison (Floral Hall, Southport), Dave Barrie (De Montfort Hall, Leicester), Al Nicol (Victoria Baths, Nottingham), Alan Colbeck and Jim Breaks (Sports Centre, Newark) and Clive Myers (Royal Albert Hall, London). He was a good "blue eye", an excellent "clean wrestler" and could also do a bit of "comedy" if he was on the last match of the card. I never spoke to him but admired him from ringside for many years.

Another good un leaves us - respects go out to friends and family.

Did Mick also referee at the big German tournaments? Sure I saw a picture of this once.
PETER
Yes he refereed in the big Bremen tournament in the six weeks leading up to Christmas for many years. Always billed from Scotland hence the kilt

Mick was at the time Britain's youngest professional at fifteen years old,in the 60's he was a household name. To my knowledge Mick never did a bad show in all his years in the buisness, in fact if a show was seen to be 'flagging', Mick would inject life back into it and 'send them home happy ' on more than one occasion. I imagine ,if he ever wrote about his experiences ,they would fill a very large volume. It's with some irony that his passing is only a few months from his old Doncaster chum Albert 'Rocky Wall ,who incidentally were both trained by 'Chick' Booth in a gym on the old Doncaster airport. May you be at peace Mick. .....

Very sad indeed. I was always happy to see Mick McMichaels name on a bill. R.I.P. Mick.
SaxonWolf
A true stalwart of the wrestling business, don't think I ever saw him in a bad bout, RIP Mick.
Ironbull
I never saw a happier wrestler in the ring.
RIP Mick

Yes, a sad loss. I saw Mick in a Daddy tag match in Whitby in 1982. Mick scored the winning pin against Blackjack Mulligan who was partnered by the late Mal Kirk.

One of my favourite moments from the golden days of wrestling is the start of the bout on TV between Adrian Street and Mick McMichael, when Mick tore Adrian's fancy gown off his back and pulled it to pieces, to Adrian's fury and the crowd's delight. In his autobiography 'Sadist in Sequins' Adrian Street says that he had come up with this idea for a bout but 'had to wait patiently until he was pitted against an opponent who he considered worthy enough to be part of it.The perfect opportunity presented itself when I learnt that I was going to be wrestling against Mick McMichael on TV. Mick was a great opponent for me, a very good wrestler with the ability to turn up the heat at just the right time'. RIP Mick.

Apparently Mick didn't want an announcement of his illness or death until after being laid to rest. A modest man who didn't want a fuss.

A smashing wrestler. Always enjoyed him in tag with Steve Clements.
