By the time Mick and Jackie went at it on TV they had met dozens of times. WE assume in the beggining , run of the mill quality, but suspect eventually it became a well oiled act. Were the TV matches the pinnacle , maybe only because millions saw these. But here evidence that they had a splendid working of the crowd going. It seems Mick was not always the man they loved to hate.

Hi Ron! I would think it would be a good hard, niggly bout, with plenty of audience participation. I notice though, a possible 60 minute bout, ended before the end of the 30 minute mark, less the three rounds that were shortened by the two falls and what, a disqualification. Closer to twenty minutes and spare change?
They probably wantd to see whether they could carry this as top of the bill. They clearly could. Still 18 months before they did it on tv - I wonder what was going ion in the meantime.
Great find, Ron.
At least 3 times in the 1950's in Northampton. Always bottom of the bill. Top of the bill in 1961. Times were changing.
