It's a bout I would dearly have loved to see. Both men very close in height and almost the same weight. It possibly would have topped most bills.Did anyone ever see it billed?
John Quinn was 6' 5" and a half in many articles. When he won the world title from Wayne Bridges Quinn was pictured with the belt in joint promotions magazine Wrestling Scene and his height given at 6' 5 and three quarters. If the Guinness Book of Records is to believed then at some point Giant Haystacks was 6' 11.'' There is a photograph of Haystacks and Shirley stood back to back and Haystacks is nearly a head taller than Shirley.Shirley and Tony St. Clair have been photographed together and appear the same height 6' 2-3."
I think over the years poor Stax shrunk with both age and carrying tremendous weight, so may well have gone down to 6' 7-8" as he had to look up to The Big Show in their encounter.
IIRC When he weighed a mere 31 stones I was told his actual height was six eight and a half, however when his weight rose to about 48 stones he was probably six six or six seven at a stretch.
Quinn billed at six five by Walton was.I believe.six four.Big Jim billed at six seven was probably six six. However, with their wrestling boots on probably looked the height they were billed at.
But Quinn moved like a welterweight. Gargantua was a great spectacle but was understandanly ponderous. Quinn would have had to carry the bout, I think.
Quinn like Gwyn Davies and Pat Roach could stack up quite well next to Haystacks. That is to say maybe three inches less.
My own opinion of Moran is that he was as tall as Haystacks and we identified these two and Carver Doone (1930's wrestler) the tallest British wrestlers we ever had.
So for me Jim would have been bigger than Quinn. I doubt they ever met.
Another tall guy was Bill Bromley.Looked to be six six or six seven possibly.
Haystacks is listed as 6ft 7 and a half in the internet movie data base.
Jim Moran was around 6ft 6 (from memory) when he was a boxer.
John Quinn around 6ft 4.
Big D around 6ft.

Gargantua left a lasting impression on me. Having seen him in the flesh......he was as tall as Haystacks.
By the same token , no way was Haystacks six eleven.

Think John Quinn first came here in 1978.Sure Big Jim was still active then.

Moran peaked in late 1960's.
Think Big Jim may have retired before Mighty John landed on our shores?
