Just come across this blog from somebody who is researching wrestling in New Cross in the late 19th/early 20th century. (No, Mick McManus doesn't appear!) https://grapplingwithhistory.com/

I used to visit the New Cross Laurie Grove baths in the mid 1960's when Paul Lincoln promoted with his customary panache. It was here that brilliant heel Docker Don Steadman from nearbye Bermondsey was accorded local hero status whatever opponent he faced. The Heritage of London Trust reported in a snooty manner the Laurie Grove large pool space. also housed all-in wrestling matches for audiances of working class woman. I recall the well supported Lincoln promotions also attracted plenty of working class men too !!
