SaxonWolf any of the top JP Mount Evans wrestlers from the 1950s within 12st limit could have easily achieved a star status in the 1860s and Gentlemen like Mel Rees, Alan Colbeck, Jack Dempsey, Jack and Cliff Belshaw, George Kidd and etc. could have been great opponents of Edwin Bibby of Ashton and Joe Acton of Wigan.
Ruslan, if this was the days of Joint Promotions, in the UK, under the Lord Mount Evans rules, you would be fine, because you would be matched with people in the same weight division.
In the USA, in the Indies (ROH, maybe AEW), you have lighter guys too.
In WWE, you could be lined up against a monster like Brock Lesnar!
SaxonWolf thank you so much for your kind words, I am taking it as a compliment, appreciate. Yes, sadly lighter weight classes became extinct. In the 1800s the "heaviest" Lancashire catch wrestling division was "under 12st championship", Ridings and Swithenbanks at their prime both were 11st wrosslers, Tom Connor 147lb, Joe Carroll same. Back then promoters were hiring lighter and shorter guys because those provided the best overall performances. The most competitive class was 9st title...nowadays we cannot even imagine that. Bigger guys litterally didnt have job. No one cared for them, too boring to watch. Boltonian giant Snape 6ft 20st...retired at the age of 20+...Lancashire wrosslin fans wanted to see "fastest guys" on the mat (I mean in the field).
Here's my story...im a ballroom dancer, coach and choreographer whole my life in the very heart of mine I dreamt of becoming a rassler. Nowadays with all the corona thing going on and on and all the dance studios being closed and my whole industry being collapsed...i was thinking about giving it a try may be. I'm scared...just like this beautiful lady said - world of unknown...being on the other side of the ropes...getting inside the temple...so I pushed myself into hard training and built my body kinda (?), nope I'm still not quite strong or bulky nuff, yet I achieved a certain look. Now time to think, or act (?)...may be Russian Concussian has a chance??? Or it'll always be just a dream, and I'll be back to my wrestling history studies never entering the sancta sanctorum, the rassling ring.
