Boxing promoter Jeff Dickson announced plans to build a mecca for indoor sports,
including wrestling, to be called Westminster Stadium. At the Savoy Hotel Dickson said
the Stadium would be built near Lambeth Bridge and designed by architect Frank Baines.
In addition to the sports arena seating 17,000 spectators the Stadium would also include
an ice rink, gymnasium, tennis courts and a variety of restaurants. One week later it was
announced that the newly formed company had failed to raise the necessary funds for
the enterprise to go ahead.
