On Ron's bill at the Commadore, 1964, is Pasquale Salvo v Peter Rann. I wonder was this before or after they teamed up as the Riot Squad. I reckon it would have been a wild match.
No way Tooting or Kingston fans could have tolerated anything but the real Dr Death! He had wrestled there countless times.
Romany Riley top of the bill in Kent; that will have added fizz in itself. But don't forget that Romany invariably arrived with an enormous entourage of, I presume, travellers, who made an enormous racket. Also by the mid-seventies Romany had really got the hang of things and was a super varied wrestler. His tv bout with Clive Myers shows him a stupendous outwitted villain.
His repertoire was immense and his running drop-kick spectacular. I became a big fan after he had started hesitantly at the start of the decade. I do agree with you, though, Main Mask that he does not come across there as big name value at top of the bill, but I am sure he rose to the occasion.
Congrats to the promoter for realising his worth.
We know very little about him, even whether he was a genuine gypsy? Did he ever appear north of Coventry?
Working overseas on this day in 1963, Pat Barrett beat Gene Kelly (no, not the dancing film star), in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, for the WWWF, as it was known back then.
Yes,I was there.I think i have posted this programme before as far as i can remember it was the real DD.I saw him at Kingston a few times about the same time give and take a few months.
Barnsley's Karl Von Kramer was overseas today (as he often was), in France.
Wrestling overseas today, Chris Adams drew with Dewey “Missing Link” Robertson, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, on this day in 1984.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1977:-
Dynamite Kid (COR) v Tiger Woods (Alan Woods) (0)
British welterweight champion Vic Faulkner (F) v Jim Breaks (S, DQ)
Gwyn Davies (COR) v Han Streiger (0)
19 March 1935
Blackburn Town Hall Committee recommended that the Council should reject an application to hire the King George's Hall for the purpose of wrestling.
The earliest I can see of Rann and Salvo together is 31st October, 1962 in Cardiff.

That photo of Quasimodo certainly got around.

A "Stonking" bill at Tooting?
