Wrestling overseas today, the great Billy Robinson defeated Wolfman Farkas, in Honolulu, Hawaii, on this day in 1970. All expenses paid, for about 20 minutes work, in Hawaii, what a life!
On our TV screens, on this day in 1970:-
Wild Angus v Tibor Szakacs (KO)
Judo Al Hayes (DQ) v Maurice LaRue
Yes, that's the point. He worked for Morrell, Beresford and Relwyskow all along after the 1967 McManus bout but was boycotted by Dale Martin. He seems to have spent a week with them in May 1970 but before then nothing after his McManus match. Well, there was one billing the week after, but I would think his services would not be required that night.
I was interested to see Peter Preston back working for Dale Martin in June 1970. Got me wondering when he was allowed back by Dales following the 1967 McManus bout. The earliest return I could see was just a month earlier. None of the Main Event giant killing status he was getting from Morrell, of course, but he was back.
Thing is, it didn't Bill.
When they stopped respecting us the money stopped coming.
That they were too conceited to realise this could well be true.
If they'd cared about these details their future could have been brighter.
.
They didn't bother to check Hack. They "knew" the money would keep coming in
Almost daily we comment on these ludicrous errors Like Honey Boy Sybill. We've put it down to phone calls. But why did promoters let this continue. We've seen it with lots of well known names that would reduce the value of the show.
That is a very uninspiring Inverness bill. Jim McKenzie had skill but a giant killer? Not even in his own back yard for this one.
Working overseas, on this day, Bert Assirati was in winning form, beating John Maxos, in Newark, New Jersey, USA, on this day in 1932.
On our TV screens, on this day in 1964: -
Masambula v Reg Williams
Mick McMichael v Keith Williams
honey boy sibill doesn't have the same ring to it.
Honey Boy Whoooooo?
I was at this show. Almost as billed; Mal Kirk was replaced by Colin Joynson.
Here's more Misdummer McManus, billed as The Champ - of what?
He could clearly make very very good money by visiting these less than top-line venues where locals wouldn't expect to see him live. Probably a sellout each time, doing his same little routines each night, admittedly skilfully. And reliably.
This poster is a candidate for the lightest overall combined weights on a single bill.
Bennison at 14 stones?
Tony St Clair pleated?
And Tony in a sixties heavyweight bout - that's a new one.
Expensive prices, Wigan must be wealthy.
