Barnsley’s Bert Mansfield won a match billed the Light Heavyweight Championship of England when he defeated Huddersfield’s Harry Brooks at the Central Hall, Skegness.
Your comment doesn’t upset me. I asked you about Hastings, you avoid the question, seemingly have never been there, but make these comments. Do you seriously think that your ill-informed comment can detract from my happiness?
Such is the internet.
Hope you enjoy your collection of 1,000 posters that you choose not to share here and that you continue to enjoy the generosity of everyone else on these daily threads.
Always a pleasure to compare our often similar but sometimes contrasting memories.
Joe Murphy was a Shamrock with Jim or Tim Fitzmaurice. And a Roughneck with Syd. More importantly 1958 to 1963 he was a regular title contender and must have fought Jack Dempsey hundreds of times. Not sure of many bouts against McManus. Possibly one of the first gay wrestlers, but this is merely hearsay.
Interesting, Steve, that you “know Hastings was shitty.”
Unfortunately you don’t give us the chance to comment on your own offerings on these threads because you don’t offer anything. Don’t share any bills.
Anyway, as someone who enjoyed hundreds of Hastings bills live over four venues, I will be interested to hear you elaborate on the ”fact” that Hastings was … I won’t repeat it. Tell us all about it.
In my opinion Joe Murphy was very underrated. He was a very tough customer indeed and when needed was not devoid of skill. I wonder if "Iron Jaw" was a member of The Shamrocks. Against The Artful Dodgers, I presume he would be a "blue eye"!
Ron is Ray, of course. Fury's a good invented name for a fighter.
"Spud" Murphy - that's a new moniker to me!
About ten years later and Garfield is at it again, now billed from London.
I don't recall Thomson v Torontos, but can't imagine Clay putting up with Torontos's nonsense.
A rare programme, where, for any nerds out there, the next bill is at a different venue (the sea front end of the pier, just over the road.) After our weekly summer fix, Hastings fans had to put up with a month's wait between bills. Next time's is tasty. Love the detail of DM's at this time; they meticulously changed AT THIS VENUE to IN THIS AREA. Five years later and they'd not be able to name any wrestlers appearing as far off as three or four weeks away.
Three featured bills here, about 16 years apart, Hastings, Hastings and the Royal Arena - with "Spud" on them all.
Looks like early Joint Promotion bookings for Peter Rann and Reg Trood.

Interesting that Portsmouth seemed to bill Ray Fury as Ron in 1963. Ron Fury was a wrestler from Australia who had been in the UK earlier.
