Les Thornton started out as Les Thornton and worked as Pierlot along side his real name. The Pierlot idea must have been from a promoter. I can give examples as early as 1958 where he worked as both.
The Globe bill see's him as Pierlot .
So even though the Pierlot idea was there you can still find him as Thornton in 1960.
After Les went over to Joint , he worked mainly as Pierlot , but still was billed as Les Thornton some of the time.
Similar to The British Bulldogs, in the early WWF years, they would announce Dynamite Kid from Manchester (sort of understandable), but they billed Davey Boy Smith as coming from Leeds?
His debut match in Mexico was teaming with Mil Mascaras & Ringo Mendoza against Alfonso Dantes (whom he later feuded with), Gran Markus, & Sangre Chicana.
Interesting that he was a technico in Mexico, since by 1980 he was primarily a villain in the U.S. and Canada.
8th and 10th of June, it appears to be, in two-man and three-man tag matches.
Looks like he went from Mexico, back to the USA and then out to Puerto Rico, to wrestle for WWC.
Later that year (1980) he is tag teaming with Billy Robinson in Japan, and his US schedule looked very full, so all in all, a busy year for our Les!
Similar to Billy Robinson, Les seemed to be in demand all over the world, and had stints in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, the USA, Mexico, Germany and the UK, plus probably others that we don't know about, or can't find results for (African countries, etc.).
Never knew that John but it should be no shock because Les seems to have worked all over North America. Often in Stampede , but as far South as Texas with others from Britain and in 1980 he was back down there again
You can't get much nearer to Mexico than The Coliseum El Paso where he also appeared. All that after being brought up in Weaste , Salford.
I knew him better as Henri Pierlot. When did he change to Les Thornton?
According to the commentator of his 1980 match versus Jonathon Boyd Thornton was from Birmingham!
He's the forgotten man of this WWF squash:
