Your use of "uninspiring" is wholly subjective, Hack. What you call "uninspiring" bouts, and therefore uninspiring wrestlers:
were the backbone of the credibility of the sport and reflected exactly what were saw on tv and what Kent Walton assured us was good for us. Nowadays they'd be called celebrities and be on all sorts of reality tv.
Certainly if you contrast the above bill, where all undoubtedly turned up as publicised, and all four were well known tv names, with non-affiliated bills with misleadingly-named and copycat wrestlers, a third of whom would be no-shows - leaving others to double-up - I can see how the reliability of it all might concern you, Hack. But we were buying into the sixties phenomenon that was professional wrestling as centred around small-screen shows and Dale Martin Promotions of the type in Bath.
I for one was always delighted to see any Jon Cortez bout as you never knew what you were going to get. And he was the most acrobatic of them all, to boot.
Happy Palm Sunday.

"Could it be, Hack, that B2R was expensive so they had to trim the supporting bill. Or, more cynically, that they KNEW B2R would fill the hall so they didn't need to bother and could do without a main support?"
Of the two options I would think the latter. Dale Martin wouldn't have paid him anything they weren't happy with. But then Dale Martin often put on shows with two uninspiring support matches.
The albeit attractive bill has a glaring horror to my eyes: two Bolton wrestlers billed against each other. Every spectator will have thought to themselves: "this pair travelled down together, probably next door neighbours." Why they couldn't just have left Penzy as exotically Anglo-Russian .... Why so excruciatingly honest when they were outrageously dishonest about other aspects?
Thank you dear Main Mask, Garfield's career never ceases to captivate me. By 1965, and what was to be his final year of tv wrestling, Garfield would surely have had to let B2R go over, as confirmed by The Ost's results. (His results amaze me in that Spencer went over against the man who held one title or another for most of the decade.)
Could it be, Hack, that B2R was expensive so they had to trim the supporting bill. Or, more cynically, that they KNEW B2R would fill the hall so they didn't need to bother and could do without a main support?
And again with results:
It's a No Contest. I'm going with Ron. Streiger, Walsh, Bartelli and good supporting matches. We'll go for a pint afterwards Ron, Caeranarvon beer will be cheaper than Bath.
No Dale Martins for me , I'm having a weekend in Wales.
Yes, pretty dull apart from the main event, though Keith Williams could have brought fireworks. The Dale Martin shows often included two clean matches, a rarity for the shows I watched in Lancashire. DM continuing with the fiction of Australian Garfield, contrasted with the precision of the Anglo-Russian from Bolton.
