It wasn't unusual to see Black Butcher billed from Borneo. I guess few would have the faintest idea where it was.

He had a series of matches there against Albert Wall, including for the British heavyweight title. I also recall seeing him there against Bert Mychel, Steve Veidor and Mike Marino. And in a tag in which, partnered by Bill Ross, he faced Mal Kirk and Alan Dennison. Ross often came with him and Morrell and Beresford would often book them somewhere the night before or after as well. I recall one Monday seeing him against Wall at the Ice Rink then on the Tuesday at Leicester's De Montfort Hall against Steve Haggetty.

I'm sure most of us would have been down there handing over the money if just one of those matches had been on at our local hall.

One thing that surprised me was that this was a Morrell & Beresford Promotion.I'd always thought the Ice Rink was just Ted Beresford (Globe). So I had a look back and up to the end of 1972 the Ice Rink was a Ted Beresford Promotion, then from1973 onwards was Morrell & Beresford.

Oddly enough, this jogged my memory of a Jim Breaks v Zolly match I was watching a few days ago from the Victoria Baths in Nottingham. Ted Beresford promoting solo.
