Nearly All Wrestlers/Promoters and Fan Clubs had Hand-Out Promotional Photos of Their
Stars!-Many were 'Stock' Pictures which were 'Wheeled Out' over and over again and are Still
the Most Commonly Seen even Today!
But there were Many Taken in the 1950's and 1960's that are much Scarcer and Harder to Find!
So I Thought I'd Share Some of My Seldom Seen Items Taking Us Back to The Golden Years!
Starting with:- My Signed BOB ANTHONY Photo!
MAIN MASK
Anglo Stan had an amazing impact ,hopefully in a few weeks I'll explain ,connections dairy farms Arthur and Geoff and erm later on the 18th, photographs by the way caused a major Fall out in the 70s,what about the white walled background for pictures ,sorry I can't sto doing build ups, hopefully it'll all make sense soon
I think that is a picture of when Stan shortly after he left the Royal Navy
Lovely stuff Main Mask.
I've got loads too, from ten years later. Most wrestlers seemed to have these, and many, judging by the fonts, were printed by the same company.
The whys and wherefores are interesting.
I'll guess that the promoters also worked as a talent agency and when film or tv or ad people wanted acors, they sent out some of these.
For some wrestlers is was a quick way to get out of signing autographs, just give out some of these ready made. I have several different ones for Les Kellett, he really went in for it.
Another minor mystery: the promoters, even Lincoln, tried to get us to buy overpriced 8x10 photos of wrestlers. I only ever invested in one, even that was a mistake. It was so easy to get hold of these.
Specifically ... the ongoing mystery of Stan Rylands continues. Why on earth would a callow ref have one of these done? And he had instant prominence.
Good to see Spitfire's autograph 100% unchanged twenty years later.
Great stuff as always M.M.!
Great In-Ring Shot of MARTIN 'CHOPPER' CONROY with MIKE MARINO!
