Many fans out there may have quite a collection of British wrestling dvds from the days of World of Sport, Reslo and Satellite Wrestling. Carl Stewart’s collection is immense to say the least. There are a couple of recordings from the early days of the Reslo broadcasts though that are like gold dust to find .
Both recordings feature Mighty John Quinn .v. Tony St. Clair. Their first encounter saw MJQ lose his World Heavyweight Title to TSC, which was the highlight of the first season of Reslo. Their second contest saw TSC successfully defend the title by stopping a badly cut MJQ during the second season of Reslo the following year.
You’ve probably gathered that unlike the weekly World Of Sport tapings Reslo was seasonal, between 4-6 week runs per year. Each Reslo show was aired through the week at 7.30pm until around 8.15 and featured 2-3 contests. If my memory serves me right, the bout featuring Quinn’s title loss although edited, may have taken up an entire show as TSC gained the winning fall in the 15th and final round. The return contest I believe took up only half the allocated show time.
The strange thing is that recordings of both the first and second season of Reslo are available through various sources including Carl, but nobody appears to own copies of the 2 afore mentioned title fights. The only copy I have seen besides mine (which my video recorder unfortunately chewed up in the early 1990s) was a very poor copy owned by Mad Eli. A few years ago I decided to bite the bullet and inquire to the S4C broadcasting channel as to whether or not they still owned the Reslo recordings and to the possibility of purchasing copies of the 2 bouts I was interested in. That’s where my endeavour came to an end, as S4C stated they don’t/didn’t hold the recordings and the company that did had gone bust!
So does anyone out there own these 2 bouts? If so would you be willing to trade or sell a copy/copies?
