What I can remember about I think it was on Eurosport, but not sure. Was it shown early nineties?Who was the Promoter? Also vaguely remember European wrestling shown on Eurosport.
Screensport ran from 1984 to 1993 when satellite and cable were in their infancy and had higher viewing figures in Europe than the UK.In 1993 it merged with Eurosport
To clear up potential confusion over "Screensport", it was an early satellite/cable channel that showed a variety of US wrestling promotions over the years. It also had its own produced show, Satellite Wrestling, that had a combination of matches taped using the All Star Promotions crew and venue at Hanley, interspersed with clips and the occasional match from US promotions.
Thanks for the help in trying to provide some information on Travesty Man but he and Flash Gordon were not the same wrestler. Flash Gordon was quite a slim Frenchman if I recall accurately whereas Travesty Man was a chubby character who wore make-up and even made Adrian Street look rugged and masculine. In many ways he resembled the male "lap dancer" who appeared briefly in WWE during the "attitude era".
The shows were from France and included "Rugby Man" who came to the ring in rugby kit including a ball! One of the commentators was, IIRC, Sir Oliver Humperdink. I also recall some current WWF folk appearing under other names e.g. Owen Hart was "Jim Owens" and Bam Bam Bigelow was "Scott Vigelow". presumably for copyright reasons.
Screensport had the AWA and latterly USWA from the Memphis area.
You're right Saxonwolf it was Eurosport. I think Screensport may have shown some of the Japanese promotions around that era featuring touring Americans and the odd Brit. The French Idol was rediculously called Flesh Gordon, perhpas because of their silly names i couldn't take to him or the French/Canadian Rambo.
Eurosport showed wrestling from Europe, which included Travesty Man (as mentioned above), a bloke called Flash Gordon (I think), who they called "The Idol of Paris". Haystacks was on there, Tony St. Clair and I think people like Klaus Kauroff.
It was a long time ago!
Screensport was (I thought) Brian Dixon, featuring Rocco, Chic Cullen and others.

Many of these early Screensport and Eurosport matches are now available on You Tube
It was quite a mixture of promotions from across the globe but the shows were best viewed as one offs as the continuity from week to week wasn't great

If my memory serves me right i remember Vader losing a contest to Ludvig Borga on one those shows. Vader mistimed a manouver and got pinned!
I remember seeing an amazing character who wrestled as The Travesty Man. Orig Williams was commentator. Does anyone know anything of Travesty Man?
