An interesting piece here about the original home (for three generations!) of the famous de Relwyskow family, in Leeds.
It tells of real wrestling, Olympic wrestling, pro wrestling, a wrestling HQ and gym, and, interestingly, of war time secret agents, the early SAS, and plastic explosives!
The web page is not well formatted, so as well as "scrolling" down the right hand side, as normal, you have to scroll down the middle section of the screen.
I remember reading about a Joint Promotions wrestling gym in Leeds, when we were talking about Big Jim Moran (this is where he trained to become a wrestler), which led us to finding the address of Joint Promotions (which for years I assumed, wrongly, would have been in London, maybe sharing the Dale Martin address).
If both George senior and George junior were enlisted to teach unarmed combat, then I would think that this would include submission wrestling (but in this case, you don't let your opponent "submit", of course, you actually break limbs, or choke and kill someone), so I wonder where they were trained to do this?
Interesting that two members of Joint Promotions (de Relwyskow and Morrell) were real wrestlers, no wonder they favoured other real wrestlers and no wonder the men who excelled in UK wrestling could go and wrestle anywhere in the world.
Anyway, click on the link below and read, it only takes about five minutes, hopefully some of you will find this interesting and enjoy it.
