A wrestler from this video very famous in USSR , his name was Eavan Cooksenko of Kharkiv, Ukraine (1911-1958), the Soviet pro wrestling fans knew him under the name of Ian The Gypsy.

I thought there would be more big suplexes and backdrops if it was GR. It's actually more amendable for show-wrestling than catch which in pure form is all groundwork, putting on armlocks and leglocks.

Peter thanks, yes it was a showcase, but it showcased wrestling skill, and nothing else. During the matches "non-wrestling" behavior was strictly prohibited. In Russian Empire circus wrestling was degrading pretty fast, and yes matches featured some "weird shit" as well, but when Soviets took over they decided, we keep pro wrestling alive BUT it has to be WRESTLING ONLY not an exhibition of brutality and other ridiculous things which pro wrestling all over the world is often associated with.

Revolution was in 1917, before most "wierd shit" had been even invented (mostly early 30s with some things such as faces and heels established in 1920s).

Nothing wrong with circuses. Olympic weightlifting grew out of circus strongman acts.
