Nope, this post is not about pro wrestling...it's about Pro Chinese Boxing at Lime Grove Baths, whatever that stands for. I am attaching the 1967 bill which I found online and would love to to know more on this subject. Does anyone remember anything about the Pro Chinese Boxing in Great Britain in the 60s? Thanks to everyone for their feedbacks.
P.S. And who was that David Ridge, he was billed as British Champion.
Similarities to Lethwei from Mynmar.
Hi Ruslan. The site shown here, is a mine of information about Chinese martial arts, 'Chinese boxing' included.
This was a spin off from the early days of the King Fu boom. I see that Baron Omidi was ref. He was great mates with Lajos Jacab who ran a club in Crystal Palace teaching a Kung Fu system that included a lot of wrestling holds. I never trained with him but did meet him once a kickboxing show where is club were giving a demo. Interesting bloke and the demo was impressive.
The David Ridge in this pic lives in Strathalbyn South Australia. Lovely guy. Lots of Great stories of his time as British champion. Fighting as a exhibition fight before a Henry Cooper fight.
It's also known as Sanshou or Sandra as Bernard said it was/is a sort of embryonic MMA as it includes punches, kicks wrestling holds etc.
Bernard wins the coconut
Certainly some form of Kick boxing.
Beginning of MMA ?
Looks like Thai boxing/Muay Thai?
